Kyle Chen
About me
Hello! Welcome to my website. My name's Kyle Chen. I am a 20 year old game development student at SUNY Canton currently in my senior year of the program. I enjoy programming and working with computers, but I also like to be on my feet. When I'm not in front of a computer I enjoy going outside and skateboarding. I also love dancing, playing D&D, and reading books, most of which are about Star Wars. My favorite Star Wars character is Grand Admiral Thrawn.
One of my favorite passtimes is listening to music. I have dozens of playlists on Spotify. I listen to a good mix of pop, punk, rock, alt, lofi, and other genres. Some of my favorite artists are Marina, Fall Out Boy, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Blink-182. Recently, I've been listening to more Against Me! and Green Day. I am going to start learning how to play the guitar soon.
I am very strong when it comes to programming and logic problems. I have experience with with Unity, C#, Godot, Python, and Unreal. I have never been very skilled at art because I have not taken the time to develop it. I have moderate ability when it comes to video editing and 3D-modeling. I enjoy a challenge or a good puzzle, and I am serverely persistent at problem-solving.
Game Projects
I have worked on many projects over the course of my college education. Many are small projects or demos that aren't very impressive to show off by themselves, but from each one I have learned new things and added skills to my repetoire. I enjoy the coding aspect of game development far more than I enjoy design work, which leaves many of my projects visually lacking. I always prefer to do things in code.
My favorite part about making games is using interesting programming language features. I like to use ternary operators, switch statements, and anything else I can to make a script look clean. I'm always cautious to make sure that what I write is understandable and makes sense. Sometimes the fancier way to to something isn't the best way to do it, which always makes me a little sad, but I know readability is far more important.

When I am making websites I always want them be nice visually. This is a little backwards compared to how I feel about game design but on a website, layout and design are far more important to the overrall project. None of the webpages I've made are very technically impressive, but they all have solid and consistent designs.
