Website Projects
Here I will display some of the website projects that I have worked on this semester.I went into this class with some knowledge of html, css, and javascript from an independent study in high school. I had never used dreamweaver before, so working with the program was a new experience.
Much of learning in this class was dusting off my knowledge of html and css. The fundamentals of website design have been mostly the same for a long time. None of the assignments for class ended up needing javascript, but I did use some PHP for the shopping website. The web server does not work with it, however, so the functionality does not work.
The main tenet I was focused on for these projects was consistent and clean design. I wanted the websites to look nice above anything else. I would say I have been successful for the most part. I have not done anything particularly fancy, using simple colors, boxes, and shading, but I believe the plainness makes the sites fairly quaint.
Travel Website
This website really pops out at you. I used lots of noisy colors. It's a loud website. The assignment involved creating a fake travel website with links to different locations. This was the first project after creating a simple html page, so maybe it shows that not everything looks super-duper nice.
For my three locations, I chose Norway, Taiwan, and Turkey. These are places that I have a personal interest in. I found images for all of these locations with free licensing, which was the most intensive part of the project to me. I much prefer writing the actual website to doing the design work and finding references and content to populate the site. Being the first project, this website is not very technical.
Travel WebsiteShopping Website
The other main project that we worked on for this class was a shopping website. I decided to model mine after an outdoor/adventure shop. This website is similar to the travel project in that each product has its own page, just like each location did for the travel website. These pages are all very similar which adds consistency to the project.
This website is supposed to use PHP for the checkout page when the user decides to purchase something, but PHP does not work on our web server so the functionality is nonexistent. The design however is very nice, using muted browns which is meant to resemble parchment. I utilize a lot of white space in my websites because I don't want them to look busy or crowded. I believe it is very effective.
